The Council of Churches of Western Australia was pleased to host The Reverend Tara Curlewis, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches in Australia.
Tara arrived on Friday and participated in meetings with the staff in the CCWA office. On Friday evening, a dinner was held at St Patrick’s Anglican Church, Mount Lawley. Members of the Executive and Friends of CCWA enjoyed a delicious meal catered by parishioners from Maylands Anglican Parish. Following the dinner, Tara led a conversation about current trends in ecumenism and future directions of ecumenism in Australia.
Following a restful Saturday, Tara preached at an ecumenical Pentecost service in Wembley Downs. The congregation was made up of people the Uniting Church, Churches of Christ and Anglican Church.
While in Perth, Tara was able to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between CCWA and act for peace.
CCWA looks forward to a positive relationship with NCCA into the future, particularly as the NCCA National Forum approaches in July.
