Film: LIVE AND BECOME
This is the story of an Ethiopian boy who, orchestrated by his mother, is passed off as an Ethiopian Jew to escape his ravaged country. In Radu Mihaileanu’s LIVE AND BECOME a Christian mother pushes her 9 year old son onto one of the refugees who’d just lost her son, beginning a life of confusion and guilt for Schlomo as he was to become, who must pretend to be a Jew.
At first a difficult and withdrawn child Schlomo, (MOSHE AGAZAI), is lucky to be adopted by Yael (YAEL ABECASSIS) and Yorum (ROSCHDY ZEM). But Schlomo never forgets his real mother.
