Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting

Evensong of Prayer for the Commonwealth of Nations

Sunday, 21 august 2011 at 5pm

PROJECT 54 is a movement of people committed to prayer for the Commonwealth of Nations and for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2011, to be held here in Perth in October. There are 54 nations in the Commonwealth and each one has been ‘adopted’ by one or more churches in Perth. On Sunday 21 August at 5pm these churches come together to pray for the nations. The flag of each nation is borne by a member of the church which is praying for that nation.

The Scripture readings are by Sue Ash (Chair of the Commonwealth People’s Forum) and Lisa Scaffidi (Lord Mayor of Perth). Kerry-Ellen Logan (National President of Aglow) leads the prayers. The preacher is Baptist minister and 6PR radio presenter Graham Mabury.

This service also marks the launch of the Commonwealth Prayer Countdown, a ‘diary’ of 54 days lead-up to the Commonwealth Christian Forum events in October. The Countdown is an initiative of the Commonwealth Prayer Initiative, Sonshine Radio, the Bible Society, and St George’s Cathedral. On each day one nation is offered up in prayer, its needs briefly identified, information given on Sonshine Radio, and its flag flown in Perth’s CBD from the tower of St George’s Cathedral.
